As in most people lives, Yoga entered the life of Seema when disaster hit. At the age of 31 she suffered two lumbar slip discs and was advised complete bed rest. Besides the physical pain she had to endure, was the agonizing mental battle of not being able to exercise-something that was an integral part of her life. Refusing to accept life in this way she turned towards yoga. She had heard about its benefits and its gentle approach and intuition guided her onwards. Slowly and with daily discipline she started the practice of “hatha yoga” which included the practice of “asana”, “pranayama”,”chanting”, and “meditation” with focus on “relaxation” and “visualization”. After about 3-6 months she found herself in a far more balanced state of “mind”. Her body built strength and stamina.
More so according to her “I started to live my life with “awareness and “consciousness”. The clarity of mind came in and she was in a better position to handle the “stress” and “anxiety” of the body when it went into painful spasms. Within one year she discontinued the use of the belt that supported her, her body became “supple” and the “rigidity” of the mind also began to disappear. That’s when the inner realization of the “therapeutic” and “healing” benefits of yoga began to dawn.
Realizing the tremendous value of yoga, Seema went on to study the ancient science in great detail through various teachers. She trained from the “International Sivananda Vedanta and Yoga Center”, then at Uttarkashi in meditation and pranayama. Asthanga yoga fascinated her and she traveled to the famous “Institute of Asthanga Yoga”, Mysore under the lineage of renowned Sri. K.R. K. Pattabhi Jois.
At 43, Seema Sondhi lives in “New Delhi”. Seema started teaching yoga 4 years back and opened her own Studio. Since then she has been teaching students about the benefits of yoga. “My aim” Seema says "is to spread this beautiful gift of yoga to as many people and lead them on a healthier and more peaceful lifestyle, to teach all a system of exercise that fully integrates the body, mind and soul." Seema's teaching reveals that yoga practice is not about learning and mastering more postures, but it is all about flowing and connecting with the breath in each movement and allowing the practice to open your heart and create love for yourself and others.
Seema has done various TV shows and has been featured on channels like "CNBC's" programme "Goodlife" and "CNN's Asia Tonight", Zee Jagran. Apart from this she has been featured in print media and articles on her have been printed in newspaper and magazines like The Hindustan Times, Femina, Life Positive, The Hindu and The Neighborhood Flash. She has also authored six books on yoga. At present she is busy with a “workshop” in which she is training young “dancers” and “golfers” yoga.
