I want to thank you for bringing positive change in my life by introducing me to yoga. As "thanks" is but just one word of gratitude, I thought the best way of expressing it is by telling you how yoga under you makes me feel. So here goes...
When I started coming for your classes, I was full of doubt- about my body, my capacity, my ability to find time for it... My other doubts began to break down shortly after the first - doubt regarding my own body. Sometimes when you begin your class you say to us- "feel your body, own it; acknowledge your own limitations and feel at ease with yourself". I suppose somewhere as I began tuning to the sound of your voice and your instructions, I actually listened to this liberating advice. So now yoga is not about acrobatics for me. I feel at ease with wherever I am- only reaching within that comfort, feeling good about just trying. (Slight detraction- I read once in a book called 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance' that we should enjoy the journey, rather than concentrate on the charm of the destination. I wonder if this lesson came to me in this simple way).
It is of course encouraging that with time, barriers do begin to extend themselves naturally. Do you remember the time I was complaining about leg raisers? I know I must have a long way to go but I can feel the stress lifting and they are easier now.
The next thing I am about to say may sound fascinatingly foolish, I feel like I have (to an extent) discovered the pleasure of perhaps the most primal act of life for a human being- breathing. It’s not in the "O2 is necessary for human survival" sort of a way. Just staying with my breath and elevating it to being the most important physical act even while working on different parts and organs of my body during yoga class somehow makes me feel "alive". Its something like realizing that I have anytime anywhere access to this nourishing nectar which can seep into me and cleanse my system. And I don't have to depend on anyone for supply :) My best classes are the ones in which I stay with my breath. Sometimes when I feel agitated, I just take 2 minutes to concentrate on my breath and I feel lighter.
I am told I have lost weight over the past year, that I seem more at ease, more pleased. These compliments I may well owe to the positive endorphins released through yoga exercises but I feel they are just signs of the important lessons I may have stumbled across along the way.
I must also tell you that yoga in class is somehow better than at home. I believe that you are the main reason for this. I like to place my trust in your voice and in your knowledge. It relieves me of all decisions- which asana, to hold for how long, what routine.. so being the lazy girl I am, I emerge like a relaxed person after a massage session after your class. The environment in the studio is also really nice.
So again, thanks for everything. I hope to learn more from you.

The passion that Seema has for yoga
